My Placement year of my BEng (hons) Electronic Systems + DIS was spent here. I worked in department "Electronic Control Design" and was involved in the design of both software (C, Visual C++, etc...) and hardware (e.g. PCB Board). An example of a project I successfully completed was the design of the ModBus communication protocol for the Access 4000 control panel. I also designed a simple DOS based test program for testing the protocol, and at a later date a windows based (Visual C++) master program used to demonstrated the capabilities of the ModBus communication protocol fully. |

This was a full time summer job, which involved me undertaking lots of different mechanical engineering practices. Including the use of drilling machines, a saw cutting machine, a punching machine, hand held angle grinders, mig welders, reading of technical drawings etc… This was a good learning experience, working with and sharing ideas with experienced engineers. Enjoyed it very much. Although I prefer the electronics & computer side of engineering and hope my future career is in this area. |

I spent one week working here
for work experience.
It was an enjoyable week and
learned a lot about CNC lathes, CNC milling machines and precision
instruments.
